Teaching is an industry that creates high levels of stress for teachers particularly at key times in the school year. Many teachers become disenfranchised and leave the profession due to stress. I often share a story with staff about the ‘Executive Monkey’.
The area of performance psychology is a relatively new field which has started to gain prominence since branching off from the field of sports psychology.
Many years ago I was on a school excursion and I have often remembered an incident that occurred on the bus. A student, who will remain anonymous, was misbehaving and generally looking for attention from his peers.
Approximately, 12 months ago my journey begun on becoming an international school principal. I had been working for a good school in Australia and was looking for something different.
For my first Blog entry I wanted to talk about positive relationships with students. There has been a growing trend towards positive psychology. I think in many ways the use of positive psychology is taking considerable momentum in a range of fields and education is one of many keen to capitalise.
When writing this blog about the concept of ‘Teacher Self-Efficacy’ I am aware the title may scare off some readers from even making it to the introduction. However, if you do make it to the intro or are one of the few that make it to the end of the page I am sure you will find some connections with social learning theory and the field of education.
